Small businesses are becoming increasing more reliant on mobile apps for day to day operations. Nearly 3/4 of small business owners use apps regularly and more than 1/3 say they would face challenges without the availability of mobile apps. One of the most compelling arguments small businesses give for reliance on mobile applications is they feel apps provide a competitive advantage. Every month in our Mobile App Series Tech Recs we feature the apps that we believe would be most beneficial to you when running your business. This month we will cover MeetingCalc, Remember the Milk, and Replay My Day.
Check out our past posts on the following apps: iBrainstorm, CyberTwin, & Chimpadeedoo, Bump, iTeleport & Cashbook, Lookout, Evernote & Dropbox, Salesforce, Lyris HQ and LinkedIn, Encamp, Google Analytics, GoToMeeting, RDP Lite, Mighty Meeting, Intuit GoPayment, and Springpad, Scan2PDF and Documents to Go.
MeetingCalc
Have you ever wondered just how much those long boring meetings are costing your company? MeetingCalc will give you the answer. For every person in the meeting, enter their hourly rate and at the end of the meeting the app will tabulate the total cost. The interface tracks the length of the meeting and updates the meeting cost in real time acting as a reminder to the meeting moderator to curtail long-winded presenters and keep the meeting moving along.
Remember the Milk
Remember the Milk has been a great productivity web application for years now but with the introduction of their mobile apps the developers have introduced some significant improvements. To get started, users are given an Inbox and Sent items list. Adding todos to your inbox is extremely easy. Once tasks are created you can check the task and change the due date, the repeat of the task, a time estimate, tags, location of the task, or a URL. Completing the task is as simple as checking it and pushing the complete button. The mobile apps have full Outlook synchronization and and the iOS and Android versions take advantage of location based tasks and alert you based on your user settings. Forget to add a task? Tweet it and the list will be updated. Working on a group project? Remember the Milk allows you to create public lists for others to share.
Replay My Day
Do you ever lay in bed at night rehashing your day’s activities? Replay My Day creates a visual diary or map of your day integrating calendar appointments, tweets, photos, videos and Facebook posts. You can annotate with personal notes creating a visual record of your day. It’s a great tool for tracking visits with clients or even compiling research for a book or article. The apps’ Time Wheel allows you to travel back in time and easily select specific days for replay.
