There are all sorts of tried-and-true SEO tactics that can be used to ensure your site is successfully crawled, indexed, and positioned in the major search engines. Though SEO tactics evolve with the technologies used to render Web sites, certain fundamentals remain constant.
While there are many different options out there to drive more traffic to your website, the first and most important thing you should do is to make sure that your website is built with the fundamental components for success.
Part 3: Effective Keywords
By now, everyone knows why Google sets the standard when it comes to the Internet. Advertising with Google is simple, effective, and well targeted; it’s the best local advertising engine. That said, it’s also become very crowded and competitive, as 68% of all searches on the Internet are run through Google.
Keywords are the words or phrases that searchers are most likely to identify as relevant to your business, products, content or anything else that you are trying to draw attention to. The use of the right keywords helps the search engines to deliver the right sites to their searchers, and delivers you the most appropriate visitors to your website. Optimizing each page of your site around a specific keyword increases the chances that the right searcher is going to find your site.
As an example, The Launch Pad could choose to optimize around the words “computer support” to attract visitors to our site. However, we’ve found out through years of trial-and-error that people who search for that keyword phrase are typically smaller customers that can’t afford and don’t value our services. It turns out that optimizing around language such as “IT management” provides a much better quality of visitor to our site – one that is most likely to be a good The Launch Pad customer. As you can see, slight adjustments in getting your keywords right can make a big difference.
Keyword Cloud Generator
A useful tool in determining keywords is a keyword cloud generator. A keyword cloud generator will give you a visual depiction of keywords used on a website. Keywords having higher density (the percentage of occurrence of keywords to the text in the rest of the page) will be depicted in a larger font. Ideally the main keywords should appear in larger fonts at the start of the cloud. You can test your keyword density using a generator such as http://www.webconfs.com/keyword-density-checker.php. It is important for your main keywords to have the correct keyword density to rank well in search engines.
