Smart phones give us the absolute portability we want but are too small and limited for full computing. Notebooks give us full-power, “untethered” access we crave but are bulky and light on battery duration. What we really want is the best of both worlds, and many have found it with tablets or ultrathin notebooks like Acer’s new “Ultrabook” weighing in at only 3 pounds.
First, what is an “Ultrabook” and what place does it have in your business? In simple terms, an Ultrabook is a new breed of notebook computers that is extremely thin and lightweight while offering mainstream performance. It’s like having the portability of a tablet and the performance of a desktop (with a full size keyboard) in one device.
Acer’s Ultrabook is particularly impressive and has some features that tech geeks and business owners alike will drool over. At its thinnest point, it’s only .51″ slim yet still has a nice 13.3″ screen and a full keyboard. “Underneath the hood”, Acer utilizes a solid-state hard drive and 2nd generation Intel Core processor that allows for quick access to files and smooth multi-tasking capabilities (especially when used in conjunction with cloud storage and cloud-based applications). To top it all off, this Ultrabooks will power up from sleep mode in less than 2 seconds and will last up to 7 hours on battery power!
While the Ultrabook is exciting to talk about from a hardware and feature standpoint, what’s really more important is how this type of a device can impact your business. With the advances made in cloud computing recently, we are realizing that it’s not just about the device or hardware itself, but how we are able to access the content and applications that drive our businesses from anywhere we can get internet access. While Ultrabooks may not end up being the be-all, end-all for business computing, they are certainly a big step in the right direction towards satisfying the “one-device-for-everything” demands of our increasingly-mobile world.
