Smartphone and tablets have transformed our daily lives. We rely on them to manage our time, our finances, run our businesses, and always stay connected to our friends, family, and coworkers. In light of the recent , highly publicized iCloud hack, many of us are rightfully concerned about just how secure their personal information as well as sensitive company data is when using their mobile devices. Fortunately there are some very effective free or almost free applications available. In this post we will cover some of our favorites, including Hotspot Shield, My Secret Folder, and Encdroid.
Hotspot Shield
It’s so convenient to pop in to Starbucks to grab a coffee and jump on their public WiFi between meetings, but while you are working, hackers can snoop on what you are doing. Hotspot Shield for Android, iOS and Windows will secure your mobile WiFi connections with encryption. Even better, you can unblock common sites that are blocked on public WiFi like Netflix or YouTube. Hotspot Shield is available in the Playstore or iTunes for free.
My Secret Folder
Everyone stores both personal and business information on their phones that they wouldn’t want someone to see if their device was lost or stolen. Store files securely and secretly on your iPhone or iPad with My Secret Folder. My Secret Folder looks just like at iOS folder but it is actually a private, passcode enables app that stores pictures, notes, contacts and other information you want to hide from prying eyes. If someone tries to open the app and enters the wrong passcode, the app snaps their picture, tags the location of the incident and files the information for you. My Secret Folder is .99 in iTunes store.
Encdroid
If you’re looking a simple means to encrypt files and folders on your Android, Encdroid is an easy to use application. Encdroid can create volumes that can be read from Windows, Linus, and Mac. With Encdroid you can encrypt your files/folders with Dropbox, Google Drive, or the local storage of the device. Using the intuitive interface, you can create an encrypted folder and easily import files with a tap. Once all of your files have been added, hold your finger on the folder icon and then tap Lock Volume. It’s that easy. Encdroid is a free download in the Playstore.
