Like a lot of people who work in a fast paced work environment, I find myself scribbling meeting notes and reminders on scraps of paper. Because we document everything at The Launch Pad it’s important that I take the time to transcribe critical notes and meeting action items in our CRM software, which can be pretty time consuming. Thankfully, we have found Notability, a feature rich note-taking app for the iPad and iPhone.
Like the iPad’s native Notes application, Notability has straightforward word-processing capabilities and users can choose the fonts, sizes, styles and colors of type they want to see on the screen. You can choose from a variety of paper types and colors for your documents. I prefer to use the handwriting mode so I’ve opted to use a stylus instead of typing on the iPad. I can take notes on the fly and add quick sketches and diagrams. The app also allows me to take images from the web or my iPad’s photo library and insert them into the document. Notability also lets me pull up PDFs and annotate them, either to fill out forms or to provide editorial feedback.
Like Pear Note for iPad, Notability can record live audio while you are taking notes. Once the recording is complete, you can go back to your notes and tap a word. The app will start playing what was being recorded at the exact moment you typed the word. This is particularly useful if you are just taking high level notes during a meeting so you can go back and flesh out the details after the meeting is over.
Notability files can be shared in either PDF, RTF, or audio note formats, and they can be printed directly from your tablet, shared via email, or saved to iTunes, Dropbox, iDisk, or WebDav services. Once a Notability doc has been filed, finding what you are looking for is a breeze with keyword searching.
