Last week, Lighthouse of Pinellas, a nonprofit organization providing services to the blind and visually impaired for over 50 years, became the latest recipient of a “Greenback” technology donation. The Women’s Group of Tampa generously donated three LCD monitors to Lighthouse through The Launch Pad’s Greenback™ Community Outreach Program, a component of The Launch Pad’s Easy-to-GreenIT™ initiative. Everyone at The Lighthouse is so delighted about the “new” flat screen monitors. They will hold a lottery to decide who the lucky recipients will be.
“We are so fortunate to have the opportunity to engage with the local community in this way and thankful to The Woman’s Group for its donation. These kinds of good will acts are not only an example of businesses reaching out to local organizations in need,” says CEO Ilene Rosoff, “but also help foster green initiatives by re-purposing hardware that might otherwise end up in a landfill.” Aside from good will and green IT, these donations have the added incentive of providing a tax write-off for the contributing business. Lighthouse is also has basic XP workstations on the wish list for their lab.
