To improve effective communication with remote staff without increasing travel costs, many businesses have invested in video conferencing solutions. While these solutions can be really useful for users within the organization, many companies have found business-to-business interconnectivity to be challenging as many of the major players including Cisco, Polycom, Lifesize, and other legacy H.323 and SIP-based endpoints have incompatible video conferencing capabilities. There are some cloud based solution providers who provide video conference bridging services but at an average cost of 30 to 50 cents per minute, a standard length meeting can really rack up some charges.
Video Telecommunications solution provider, Vidyo is changing the game by launching VidyoWay, a free cloud-based service that can mix video streams from multiple endpoints, including those from incompatible technologies. The solution delivers high-quality video conferenceing for multi-party or point-to-point meetings and will also support Microsoft Lync and voice only devices on the calls.
VidyoWay participants will download the application to their desktop or video conferencing site and then dial into a bridge, or common service to tie all of the calls together. Vidyo has an app for iPad pending approval and an Android app in development but the true value of the service is to support the bridging of incompatible systems, not to enable video calls from one iPad user to another.
On the downside, VidyoWay is missing some of the features offered by competitors, such as interconnectivity with Skype and signup is a little cumbersome as you have to request an invitation rather than a more straightforward download process. Despite these inconveniences, VidyoWay is a free solution that can help organizations gain greater value and connectivity with their legacy video conferencing systems.
