When you are on the go and you need to be able to access Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint your iPad or Android tablet is not normally the device you turn too. But OnLive, a cloud-computing company from Palo Alto, is now making access via your smart device a reality.
The app provides users with fully functioning versions of Word, Excel and Powerpoint that live in a virtual Windows 7 environment. The Free App allows you to have 2 gigabytes of storage in the cloud and your files can be accessed from a PC or Mac. The paid service plans allows users more cloud storage and access to a full Flash browser.
OnLive Desktop allows users to get the best of both worlds! Features such as pinch and zoom, drag and drop and flick to scroll on tablets are still functional but enhanced by providing users all the features in Office as well. As for the drawbacks – If you have a lot of editing to do, a wireless mouse and keyboard may be necessary because the onscreen keyboard doesn’t function in OnLive. Also, an Internet connection of at least 2 Mbps is needed for things to run smoothly since you are accessing this environment from the cloud.
OnLive just announced on March 2nd that the App is available in the Android market. Since the App is free, be sure to test out the App on your iPad or Android and see how it performs on your device!
